OCTOBER 2008 Sunday, October 12, 2008; 1:30 p.m. Family Fun Fest: Stoughton Norwegian Dancers This year, our Family Fun Festival celebrates Scandinavia, when the Stoughton Norwegian Dancers from Stoughton, Wisconsin, visit Sycamore. Authentic Scandinavian dances will be performed by this energetic high school dance troupe, even giving some members of the audience a chance to take part. Since 1953, the Norwegian Dancers have shared their ethnic traditions and talents all across the United States. Pick up some kringla, crumcake, or other Norwegian pastries at the bake sale sponsored by the ladies of the St. John Lutheran Church of Creston--home of the famous springtime kumla dinners. View Norwegian handiwork, including a display of hardanger embroidery and rosemaling. Wood carver Jeff Olson of Sandwich will demonstrate and display kolrosing carving. CreepFest at the Museum Saturday, October 25, 2008; 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Get in the Halloween spirit when MMNH hosts a special exhibit of creepy-crawly SPIDERS. Several varieties will be on display, with demonstrations by arachnid hobbyists Art and Kathleen Schramne held throughout the day. CreepFest is included in museum admission, and is free to members. S.O.A.R. in Sycamore! Friday, October 31, 2008; 9:00 a.m. & 11:00 a.m. Presentations are at the Sycamore Theater located across from MMNH. Sunday, November 2, 2008; 2:00 p.m. Presentation is at the museum. Experience a “close encounter” with birds of prey when Save Our American Raptors, brings three shows to Sycamore. An American Bald Eagle, a Mississippi Kite, a Black Vulture, a Barred Owl, and several hawks will provide the audience with an up-close view of these majestic birds at close range. The first two lively and informative demonstrations will take place at the Sycamore State Theater, across from the museum. Raptors will present a thrilling demonstration of flight as they soar overhead through the theater. Friday is field trip day! Admission for pre-registered school groups is $4 per person. Limited seating for individual admissions is $5, but no individual pre-registrations will be taken. Sunday seating for all! Sunday's up-close demonstration will be at the museum. The program is included in museum admission and free for members. No pre-registration is necessary.
